At 7am on Friday July 7th, a large fire which began in a kebab shop, spread throughout a shopping strip located on Auburn Rd in Sydney’s west. Huge flames and plumes of thick smoke could be seen for kilometres.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews raced to the scene. Ten fire crews tackled the blaze, bringing it under control by 8am.
Local residents and emergency services were concerned for residents living above the shopping strip. No injuries have been reported. Traffic and pedestrians were diverted away from the area. The kebab shop was completely gutted, with neighbouring businesses affected by heat and smoke damage. The source of the blaze is unknown and investigations are continuing.
Having established fire safety and evacuation procedures in place is essential to maximising safety for occupants located on-site and within the nearby vicinity – ensuring that everyone is safely evacuated and accounted for.
