Lockdown at Melbourne Shopping Centre After Armed Robbery

18 May , 2017

At around midday on Tuesday May 16th, Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre was put into lockdown, after four men committed a brazen daylight robbery, using hammers and an axe to smash their way into JK Collections jewellery store. After the robbery, the men fled the centre in a non-descript vehicle.

Police were immediately called to the busy shopping centre, which has over 100 open stores, located on the corner of Police and Jackson Rd, Mulgrave in Melbourne’s southeast.

The shopping centre remained in lockdown for an hour. No injuries were reported and Police investigations are continuing.

This incident reinforces the importance of reviewing security measures and threat response plans for workplaces, to maximise the safety of occupants, employees and customers. Knowing how to act can greatly improve the chances that potential victims in such scenarios can escape unharmed.
