Hostage/Lockdown/Active Shooter Threat Response Training

Workplace threat incidents can happen anywhere and at any time. Being prepared can make all the difference.

Threat scenarios can pose imminent danger to the physical and psychological wellbeing of employees and buildings occupants. Knowing how to quickly respond and act during such incidents is essential to protecting lives and preventing injury. These types of threat scenarios can include; hostage situations, active/live shooter incidents, and threats that require a building lockdown. Our Training equips people with the skills required to quickly assess the type and severity of a threat, and to respond appropriately.

Hostage Situation Response

Being held hostage is probably one of the most terrifying experiences a person can be faced with. Many people incorrectly believe that it could never happen at their workplace. But could it?

Hostage taking can happen either as an intentionally planned incident, such as an act of terrorism, or it can develop unintentionally through incidents such as a failed armed robbery.

With life preservation being the ultimate objective, this training covers practical strategies and procedures for:

  • How to avoid being taken hostage
  • How to act/behave as a hostage
  • What to do as a first witness to a hostage situation
  • How to act/behave during a rescue situation
  • How to communicate with Law Enforcement and Emergency Services
  • Trauma counselling

Our training will help your employees and building occupants be prepared for such incidents, equipping them with practical skills and procedures to help maximise their chances of coming out of the situation unharmed.

Lockdown Procedures

Lockdowns are usually initiated when an emergency situation exists within a building, or its immediate vicinity and it is unsafe to evacuate the building. Knowing when and how to lockdown a facility is essential to maximising the life safety of employees/occupants during a potential or actual dangerous incident.

A lockdown may be preventative or emergency depending on the situation. A preventative lockdown is initiated when a threat exists in part of the building or the immediate vicinity. An emergency lockdown is initiated when an actual incident happens on-site (such as an active shooter, hostage situation, etc.), with the potential for imminent harm to occupants.

Our training is designed to enable wardens, employees and occupants to respond quickly and appropriately, according to the nature of the incident.

Active Shooter Threat Response

Probably the scenario that involves the most potential for imminent harm to individuals is the active/live shooter. These events usually occur without any prior warning, with the shooter usually being on-site before the threat becomes apparent. These incidents can involve one or more armed intruders actively using firearms to cause harm or take lives, often indiscriminately. Possible causes or motives behind such incidents can include; escalated customer grievances, drug-related crime, political activism, acts of terrorism, etc. The dangers include the possibilities of death, temporary or permanent injury and/or psychological trauma.

Such incidents can happen quickly and unexpectedly, often causing shock, confusion and panic. Having a plan of action in place is essential to maximising life safety.

This training is designed to help people quickly determine the most reasonable way to protect their own lives - when to RUN, HIDE, or FIGHT.
